Why Install Cordless Roller Blinds if You Have Cats?

While you might not think that you need to factor in your pets when you dress your windows, it's worth doing this if you want to install some roller blinds and have cats at home. Rather than installing standard blinds with chains, you should look at cordless products.

These roller blinds use a pre-tensioned spring mechanism to open and close. Rather than winding the blind up or down, you simply pull on its ring or bar at the bottom. You then activate a spring that helps you raise or lower the blind by hand.

Why are cordless roller blinds a good option if you have cats?

Keep Your Cats Safe

Cats like to play with things that move. They are particularly attracted to strings and cords that dangle down.

If you install a regular roller blind with a chain mechanism, then your cats might be fascinated by the chain, especially if it moves in a breeze when you have a window open. They'll want to play with it. While batting a chain back and forth might not be harmful, you do need to protect your cats from blind chain accidents.

For example, if one of your pets gets over-enthusiastic with a chain, then they could get caught up in it. They could hurt themselves when they fight to free themselves from the chain. If it goes around their neck, then they won't be able to breathe and might even die.

If you install cordless roller blinds, then you keep your cats safe from harm. These blinds don't have any enticing chains, so your cats won't be interested in playing with them.

Keep Your Blinds in Good Shape

If you install roller blinds with chains, then your cats could do some damage. At the very least, they could tangle the chains up in knots if they mess around with them a lot. You'll have to spend time untangling them to get them back in working order. Your chains aren't necessarily going to last forever if they are regularly tangled and knotted.

On a more serious level, your cats could damage the chain or even the blind itself. If they pull on the chain repeatedly, then it might break. If they chew on a plastic chain, then it also won't last long. Plus, if they go to extremes and put all their weight on the chain, they could even bring the blind off its fixings.
