Why Should You Pick Horizontal Blinds Over Vertical Blinds?

Adjustable blinds let you move slats to let in as much light as possible or block it out completely. Of course, you'll need to decide between horizontal slats and vertical slats.

Here are just a few reasons why horizontal slats might just prove the better option.

Added Privacy

One of the best things about having adjustable blinds is being able to let in only a certain amount of light while still keeping your privacy protected. If you want to bring in natural light while maintaining your privacy, horizontal blinds work much better than vertical ones. The problem with vertical blinds is that you adjust them to block sightlines from left or right, so your entire room will still be visible to people on one side or the other. Horizontal blinds can block views from above or below, which is normally much more effective at blocking out views since people can't usually see into a window from both above and below.

Additionally, vertical blinds tend to move around more when they catch the breeze. If yours blow open, they could expose you when you'd really prefer nobody looking in.

Easier to Keep Clean

You might have heard that horizontal blinds are harder to keep clean than vertical ones since they can trap dust more easily. Well, there's certainly some truth in that, but they're relatively easy to dust off – simply get a duster and whisk it between the slats to take care of business.

Horizontal blinds actually tend to get dirty faster because the bottom of each slat will generally be set just above the floor or windowsill. Any dirt or dust that gets on your floor will transfer to your slats – that's why the bottom of them will often be on the grubbier side when you look at vertical blinds that have been hung for some time. It can hard to get those dark marks out, so you'll probably have to replace your blinds more often if you want to keep your home looking its best.

Less Noise

Unwanted noise is a problem many homeowners fail to think about when considering blinds. The issue with vertical ones is that they tend to move around more in the wind. When that happens, they move against each other and create a clattering noise that many people come to find annoying. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but imagine putting up with it while you're trying to read a book, talk with friends or get to sleep.
